I've just been asked to set up a Photo Booth for another photographer to use during an event at a church youth activity.

I have a pair of Einsteins and 60" PLMs. I think I can get by with just one light for this, but am concerned that the PLM is big and will get jostled too much. Would I be better off getting a new Omni reflector, or just try to block off the area with a couple chairs and not worry?

It's not really a booth, just a backdrop and dress up stuff. I'm concerned it could get a bit rowdy...

I have done a similar set up with an Einstein and 86" PLM on a sandbagged boomed C-stand for (self proclaimed) "Geek" conventions. The set up was supervised by sober adults and never became an issue.

I did have back ground light stands with barndoors, and they were more prone to.....customer interaction.

If the booth was unsupervised, or if there is high potential for interaction between the PLM and youth (whether it is direct contact, or indirect, like flying basketballs in a gym), you may want to consider the omni.

I decided to get an Omni. Ordered it on-line Tuesday around lunch time with standard ground shipping to NC. It is being delivered today, 2 days after ordering.

Amazing service. Glad I didn't spend the extra bucks for 2 days delivery.

Thanks!

Quick update - the Photo Booth was the hit of the night. I used an Einstein with Omni/sock on one side, and an Einstein behind a 4'x8' sheer white fabric for fill/reflector/privacy screen.

Sponsor supplied a box of masks, mustaches, hats, boas, etc and the both the kids and the adults had a blast. Ordering a VML today increase the flexibility for next time. I didn't like the cord on the floor on the side away from the wall.

It doesn't take much to make a Photo Booth, it adds to the fun and could add a nice hunk of change to your business. If you haven't tried it I recommend looking into it. The disguises can be picked up pretty cheaply at Oriental Trading Company.
