I have an AB800 and the ratchet handle pulls out but the flash unit doesn't budge.
What am I missing here?

The ratchet handle pulls out to reposition it for better leverage. It does not release the stand mount with that action alone. Once the handle is repositioned, you would turn it counter clockwise to loosen the mount. If the mount is not loose enough once you rotate through the full range of motion, pull the handle back out, reposition, and rotate again. Repeat as necessary.
