At this point, about the only thing that can be done is for the unit to come in for repair. It sounds like there may be something out of spec in the connectors.

Ok, that can be arranged. I'm in New Zealand, it'd have to be sent back to Australia, which can be tricky because the battery has so much lithium in it. Does Australia have the repair capability?

What part needs to be returned, the battery, the inverter, or both?

If possible, both. You will need to contact PCB Australia for details on how they will handle the repair process.

Paul C Buff Australia have asked for the inverter to be sent back, without the battery. Is that going to be enough to identify the problem and repair it, or should they have the battery as well? It's the battery terminals that look most recessed to me, not the inverter terminals. It's much cheaper and easier not to ship the battery, because of the amount of lithium in it, but if it can't be fixed without it it'd increase costs if I have to ship it separately.

I know one battery is bad. But do they both pull away from the inverter, or does the bad one stay in place and maintain power, while the other pulls away and loses power?

I can't reproduce the problem at home right now. Perhaps all the pushing and prodding of the connectors has put some spring back in them or something.

It happened at the last few weddings I photographed, which was March. They're all hot days, the unit's been in the car for hours bumping around (in its padded case), with a cord plugged in and an AB800 hanging off it. Right now it's the middle of winter and it's just sitting in a cupboard.

I guess I'll have to just leave it until it does it again, but by then it'll be wedding season. Probably easier to just buy another one, though they're really, really expensive to buy from the Australia branch and ship to NZ.
