I would be interested in renting a B1600 just to try out - even though I do have an appreciation that 800 cfls are not enough, I still have to be convinced that these are what I need. Do you rent? are there any companies in the SF Bay area that do rent these out? I live in the east bay.

We don't rent, but there are outfits who do. They do so independently of us, and we cannot make a specific recommendation.

Borrowlenses.com is in San Carlos, CA. They carry some of our product, but, again, I cannot make a recommendation for or against anyone.
