you can dim the backlight?

Yes, if you go to 'Advanced Setup' one of the options there lets you adjust the backlight power and timeout. It's very useful.

Be sure to check the manual for an overview of the advanced functions (backlight is covered in page 9, section #21):

Cliff notes version: Menu>Advanced configuration>Cyber Commander Setup> then use the up or down function of the left joystick.

New units ship set to 20% (I believe) by default. I can see it fine at 10% (minimum setting) inside. However, outside i do have to raise the power considerably, typically 75% or more on a sunny day.

Mine reboots itself during a photo-shoot with rate about once per 40-60 minutes.
It reboots when screen is off and unit is not even on my hand. New Duracell batteries in it.

What really sucks that it looses a whole SD content after each 4th or 5th reboot: all my setups are gone... Like I said, this is not every time it rebooted, but still very often: at least per day long photshoot.

Techs, do you think my unit is defective? Batteries are new, and it gets reboots while resting on a table.

I'll try lithium, will see if this fixes it, but empty SD is what worries me the most...

I have 2 CC's and they are both rebooting at a rate just like yours. I've realized that when it seems like all my setups aren't there, I pull out the card and put it back in, it will read the card again. Strange!
I've learned for the "just in case it does wipe the card" (because it has) to keep 2 extra cards in the drawer.
I've used both types of batteries - same results.

Same here with the reboot issue. The first CC I had would reboot if you used the meter function, every time. Sent the CC in and it was replaced. This one reboots randomly. Using fresh lithiums or alkies makes no difference.
Until there is a real fix, the CC sits on the shelf as it's more work to use it than just walking over to the lights and making manual adjustments

I've learned to carry on a conversation while it reboots (only takes about 30 sec). It always comes right back to where it was so i can just keep working.
I keep mine in my back pocket while I'm shooting. I wonder if that has anything to do with it?

I just reread this. Mine will reboot at the rate you mention while in my pocket but also reboots another 2-3 times in a 60 minute period while trying to meter. Hit the meter button and nothing happens because IT"S REBOOTING AGAIN

Greg, you are lucky, yours comes back to where it was.. Mine after each reboot loses all the setup, and I have to load it from SD card (if it was not wiped) and adjust lights again. I change ratio quite frequent during the photoshoot, not saving it each time. Only initial setup is on SD card.

BTW, good idea with spare SD: will use it.

Thank you!

oh now that just sucks. Send it back for a new one.

I always keep backups for my backups. One thing I've learned switching from film is DON"T trust anything. When you do - your screwed!

I saved about 13 setups for each different shooting style and saved it to the sd card. Only make little tweaks as needed. That way if it reboots and doesn't go back to where it was I just open memory to where I was.

For those having issues with rebooting. First make sure you have Alkalines with a good charge. make sure the battery contacts are straight, snug, and fit flat against the battery.

see if that fixes the issue, if not, please let us know!
