Brilliant solution! I knew if I asked the all seeing, all knowing Buff genius' I would come away with a workable answer.

Well done I'll take your advice - now all I need are the PLM's, hint -hint!

Thanks Gary

I took my own advice, Gary, and moved the PLM cage tripod to a generic Bowens speed ring insert. I have several lights and brackets that take the Bowens "S" mount. The operation was simplicity itself. Here's the finished Bowens insert:

Here's the PLM V2 mounted on a Jinbei RD400 flash head:

And here's the PLM V2 mounted on a Cheetahstand Speed-Pro bracket:

Dave, which Bowens speed ring insert did you use? I got the Bowens speed ring sold by Cheetah Stand. The usable outer diameter of that one is about 131mm whereas the circle formed by the the 3 bolt holes in the Elinchrome cage that came with my PLM is roughly 155mm. I wanted to double check if I should try to find a Bowens insert with a larger usable outer diameter before trying to bend the "tripod" legs of the PLM cage. Or should I have ordered the Paul Buff compatible speed ring cage instead? - if the tripod angle of that one is narrower than the Elinchrome cage, it might be a better fit for a Bowens transplant.

Sorry tyurek and watt, I haven't been monitoring this thread.

Mounting a PLM V2 on a Cheetah Speed Pro bracket only requires that you move the PLM cage's tripod fixture to a Bowens compatible speed ring insert like the one shown in my photos appearing earlier in this thread. The insert I used was just a generic throw-away like the many others currently sitting in my box-o'-inserts. The outer diameter of my insert is 145mm. This is indeed smaller than the diameter of the circle described by the tripod legs from the PLM cage but there is enough flexibility that the three legs can be squeezed a bit to fit into holes drilled in the Bowens insert.

Note "tyurek": The 131mm usable diameter of the Cheetah insert you mention is exactly right. That is the same the inner diameter of the ring I used. Trust me, it works perfectly in this application.

I apologize for the late reply to your inquiry Watt Sekont. I'll be more attentive if you have further questions.

Thanks Dave. I just drilled 3 holes with a 11/64 drill bit and it worked like a charm. I kept the repositioning shaft of the PLM unit attached to the cage while tightening the nuts so that I could judge by eye to keep it more or less straight and on axis. For anyone else who may want to go this route, the Bowens speed ring I used is the one Cheetah Stand sells on their web site - you just need to separate out the Bowens insert as what you get is a whole speed ring assembly for soft boxes.

Never noticed that it was "late".

I'm afraid you've got me there, Watt. I have no idea what "Hurricane Way" means :-) However, of course you can contact me via email.

It looks like emailing and PM'ing are disabled on this forum, Watt. You can send me a PM or email from the Fred Miranda site (http://www.fredmiranda.com), if you'd like, where I have the same user name.
