If we had Einstein 1280, a zoom reflector, an optical snoot and a fresnel modifier we probably wouldn't need profoto at all. One more thing, an extension cord for a flash tube, so a tube could be taken out from the monoblock and put inside a space where a monoblock wouldn't fit. Like a floor lamp shade etc.

Think about it, Paul. How many would switch to PCB with that variety and price. ;)

I can understand nearly all of Paul's philosophies on his business from a consumer perspective and I think he does things as well as any business owner out there.
If such a unit could be put together even at a slightly higher overall cost/value compared to the rest of the PCB range surely it would bring in viable returns?

Now, in saying this, I'm not the one who would need to throw a zillion dollars into it. :D

Interesting post on FM tonight

Good riddance. Now we can finally have a non PCB product discussion without distraction. Good job Fred! Finally.

Well, not so fast. There has been some mention that poster Kacey above is a Profoto employee/distributor? If this proves true, shouldn't this person also go for the sake of consistency? Never seen him post anything objective about ProFoto products here. I'm calling on FM to make the house cleaning complete. Let's get rid of all the vendors on here that pump their stuff. How about it? As for the batpac, it looks interesting but far more expensive than what it seems to be worth. I don't think I'm a potential customer.

Kent in SD

Kacey was a real ass in this fiasco and one of my last posts before banning was to him was:

Chavez rudely insisted I was spreading misinformation regarding D1 not being a constant color light, and adamantly insisted I should do my research and read the (misleading) Profoto specs. I did just that, providing two independent measurements of the D1 that clearly showed that my statements were 100% correct and that his was the misinformation. Hence the rather well qualified comment about eating crow.

I wouldn't exactly say neither Kacey nor DC Chavez were not equally rude. Rude begets rude. At least in my "rudeness" I managed to correct the totally false information from Chavez, providing valuable information to readers. So it comes down to who was the rudest first and who provided the correct information in the end?

If I were in Kacey or Chavez's position I would have said "My God Mr, Buff, you were right . . . I didn't realize Profoto had presented misleading specs and I made the mistake of misinterpreting them and of falling prey to their specsmanship."

So what do readers want here . . . lollipops and roses and blind acceptance of false information, or a barroom brawl that results in the the truth rearing it's ugly head?

Wen I looked for the later exchanges between myself and Kacey it appeared like the thread had been selectively edited to remove some very odd comments to me from Kacey as well as my suggestion to him that he quit acting like my buddy and peer.

Some really heavy shenanigans going on at FM!

I recall your comment asking him to quit acting like your buddy & peer. It was direct (as usual) which stepped on his toes, possibly not 'politically correct' for a polite sandbox, but certainly not offensive. (Maybe I only saw the FM edited version).

The guys (Kasey and others) just keep poking at you ... and that UKPHOTOGRAPHER with his incessant irrational logic about a 20 pound battery vs. the VBM and two story drops from two decades ago technology combined with incessant 'mix & match' solutions vs. a single source system ... I could go on.

The Salem Witch Hunts were a much sadder thing in that innocent people were killed because of people 'claiming' to be acting in the interest of 'higher ground' yet were actually ignorant of the truth ... just because they found someone else's actions and/or behavior different from theirs. Paul is definitely different ... and for very good reason.

The fact that he is so passionate about his efforts is a good thing, he has every reason to be so. Too bad that others misinterpret Pauls' passion & truthfulness, mixed with a directness that some people are uncomfortable with. They wrongfully assume that it is all a big marketing ploy ... where in reality it is a man giving freely to others. Does Paul benefit from it, sometimes yes, sometimes no ... but his motive is not a marketing ploy, it is an educating truth ... then everyone can decide for themselves accordingly. Has Paul's responses to the 'poking' always been politically correct, likely not. But Paul has stood firm on the principles of truthfulness (with attitude ??)... and paid a price for doing so.

The loss of Paul from FM is a price that many will feel, not just Paul.

It's not anywhere close to the Salem Witch Hunt by comparison, but in principle those who were either scared by Paul, defending their own interests, or simply didn't understand the value of his being 'different' from most people ... they hung him out to dry.

This makes for great reading while having my morning coffee. Very entertaining. Bottom line for me is this. I could care less about anything other than purchasing a quality product with the best support arm behind it. I feel as though Mr Buff & company do just that.

I have stayed away from FM for quite some time now. Just don't have time for the antics that go on over there.

Being a business owner myself, I have to give it to you LUAP. You are a man who wears your heart on your sleeve. No one can EVER accuse you of not saying what's on your mind. Many folks don't really know how to react to such a strong personality. I for one admire it!

You can say anything you want ..... Just keep making the products you do and keep providing the same support. THAT, at the end of the day, is what matters most!

It's (now) very easy to smell the behind the scenes nonsense @ FM... Makes me wonder what information I can trust over there... add another one to Team Luap.
