64" Soft here I come... :)

Paul, will the newer, reinforced shafts be available for sale separately (as replacement parts) for v2-style PLM's in off-axis config?

Sorry, no. The present V2 comes with a 7mm hard aluminum shaft and the new straight shaft version is 8mm and can't fit the present V2. Also, the new 8mm version shaft is part of the umbrella frame itself.

Thank you very much for letting the cat out of the bag. I've been eyeing getting the PLM™ system and I am really close to getting one. I was debating between silver (a little too harsh of light for what I want) and white (a little to soft.) Now with the soft-silver coming out, I know which to get.

Thanks, Paul. I suspect the softlighter folks won't like it either. The soft silver in my medium softlighter is one big reason I like it...slightly shiny skin but not harsh :)
I'll have to add the giant soft silver one...glad they're not going up in price :-)

Both sound like great additions.

BTW, I appreciate the advance notice; good chance I'd have bought something else between now and the eventual release.

That's exactly why I posted the info as soon as we had tested pre-production samples. I hate buying things, only to find a new version come out the next week. Doing this delays some of our sales, but helps cement customer relations. Appreciation is appreciated.

Guess I'll have to buy a silver softlighter to compare. I only have an older white one. We spent a half a day yesterday doing test shots of all PLM™s and knockoffs. Have to do more next week. A very important factor is what it looks like from the models view and how even it is across the face with a front diffuser. Soft silver rocks in this area with and without diffuser. V1 and knockoffs suck. 16 segments make a lot of difference here in visible spokes.

Great news!!

Hey Paul,
I have an 86" white PLM to be delivered this Wednesday - how about an RMA so I can exchange it for a couple of soft silvers?

Are you gonna wrap your soft boxes with the new material too?

You can always return anything within 60 days - no RMA needed. If you can catch UPS, you can also just refuse the deliver and they'll return it to us.
