Sorry for the delay in getting back. After trying everything that was suggested and using a couple of new cards and my old card, Customer Service offered a choice of sending in the unit for upgrade / possible repair, or to send me a preloaded, known good card. They sent the card and it went through the upgrade flawlessly.
And just a note, the failure of the upgrade when I was trying it did not disable the unit. So I continued using it while going thru the troubleshooting steps.
