I'm not going to get mine for a while, probably, but when I and the rest of us do get our Einsteins , especially the early recipients, is there anything we can do in terms of feedback (besides Works Great!) that will be helpful to PCB in evaluating the product?

Sure. Check the accuracy of both flash and model lamps at any power setting, then try this with any other monolight (we have the only monolights with voltage regulated modeling lamps). Check the color consistency all the way from Full power to 1/256 power in Color Mode. Shoot some critical action stopping shots in both Action and Color modes. Note the very smooth patterns on various reflectors due to position of lamps and the frosted dome - compare model patterns to flash patterns - their absolutely identical. Put it on reduced power and shoot at motor drive rates from 3fps to 10fps. Shoot some f1.4 shots at 2.5WS and compare them to most Euro 600WS monolights with minimum power of 19 - 38WS. Do almost anything with Einstein and compare it to Euro lights at any price. Unplug it from 120VAC and plug it into 240V (with the correct power cable) and watch it work.

Hey Paul

Great to see these are ready to ship. I'm sure you are a bit relieved, too.

I'm assuming Einstein has specific tubes and modeling lamps. Will you have replacements available to ship with the pre-orders?

Thanks,
Ziv

All flashtubes are proprietary. The modeling lamp is a standard bayonet base 250W Quartz (Q250CL/DC . . . . ESS) . Not available at Lowes, etc, but widely available from bulb suppliers, photo stores and, of course, us. You can pay $40 for the same lamp we charge $7.95 for (see the Zeus modeling lamp on link below) - same lamp as Einstein.

Yes, we will have replacement bulbs, flashtubes and domes available.

We will start shipping on Monday April 5. Can't say how many yet. I work at home and can't manage every detail.

Maybe I shouldn't ask but did they start shipping today?

Yes. but they wanted to ship more units than I let them. I demanded a more in depth testing routine and documentation of the performance of each unit tested before they go out to customers. I want to know the range of unit to unit variation (my testing of limited numbers indicate this will be quite small) and other performance details. I have too much invested in Einstein to rush. No problems that I am aware of other than some molding flash on some of the buttons that is being cut off. I should have a spreadsheet of results for each unit tomorrow.

Thank you for the response and congratulations on finally getting at least a few Einsteins out the door. Hopefully, early user reports will start appearing soon.

Sorry, I don't have that info. I know the first 6 or so are going to industry leaders such as Rob Galbraith and Ellis Vener. You can be sure they will do thorough independent testing and evaluation.

I am kinda stuck, I been using my 2 - sb900 to use as my studio lights not my favorite but it got the job done by until now, I have order 6 Enstein and last I new I was on 702 list,I have a Job next Tuesday 450 head shot at and event and my sb900 will not be able to handle, I didn't want to order the other AB lights and then ship back for exchange, I've been holding on for long and I understand what you been through. Can I order 2 lights AB lights then return it or get just 2 Enstein so I can get the job done and just ship the rest later.

PCB has a pretty clear "You can send it back if you don't like it" policy...But personally I'd consider using that policy as a "Free-Hire" service a bit cheeky .....

But that's just me !!
