Here's an example of the libel, bashing and ignorance that goes on the various forums. Please go to the end of the thread and notice, after I am accused flat out of being a liar, two separate independent tests confirm the correctness of my posts and measurements.

Here's more interesting info regarding various misconceptions:

Paul,
I was perusing FM at home one night, and decided to take a look at the ad link on the forum. This was an ad for some guy talking about how great his Profoto Acute B2s was. How much power control, color consistency, portable and all the other buzzwords. So I started digging into more info to compare E640/VML vs. the AcuteB 2s, (and a B/X1600/VML would not be a bad player in this either). While I do not have a formal stat. comparison made up yet (though I can, if you wish), I did find some interesting info in the Profoto manual. http://www.profoto.com/sites/default/fi ... _EN_LR.pdf on pg 13, it states what you already know, and others refuse to believe; there is at least a 300K color shift from one power setting to another. Also, that is -300K at -4f, it does not mention what happens at -7f. Shot to shot is +/-50K, which is all they state in newer manuals. This is from Profoto’s own publication. The fact they now omit this, rather than pointing out any improvements leaves me skeptical of any actual improvement.

Just thought you would find this interesting.
David

The latest libel from FM (Beni)

http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/ ... astmessage
"Colin or is it Paul writing under another name (again?)"

I have never, and never will, written anything on any forum under a phony name. I use Luap C. Ffub here with tongue and cheek and members of the world's largest cult understand the meaning. Whatever I write is honest and transparent.

Have a ball FM hate posters - you're just destroying your own credibility.

Paul,

I read through that Strobist thread on Flickr as it was happening. Even with my admittedly limited knowledge of the "science" of lighting and strobe flashes, I knew that thread was in trouble from the first comment regarding the "testing" of AlienBees.

I've read a lot of flack about you over the years. People seem to love to trot out your personal stances as some carte blanche excuse to start attacking you and your products.

I guess people have a right to drum up any excuse they want to avoid doing business with a company. Personally, whether I agree with a stance or not (in this case I do), I have to respect a business owner who is willing to NOT compromise his beliefs.

However, for all of the negativity I've seen directed at you, I really only have one complaint that I think is valid. In fact, it's a complaint that I think undermines your moral integrity as a human being. And that complaint is this:

Paul, you only offered that sweet, sweet orange AlienBee for a limited amount of time and thus I was only able to get one of them.

That's it. I simply can't respect or forgive you.

(The last is, of course, a joke. I love your products, love that you sell them at a fair price, and I plan to keep buying more from you in the years to come. And I've actually come away with a TON of extra knowledge from your responses here to the Flickr and FM threads, so thank you, sir.)

Since readers are dropping like flies from FM, and I can't post corrections there, please note this thread about Silver PLM with front diffuser.

This is PLM Version One and representative of all knockoffs of same.

Note that PLMV2 has many design improvements and the evenness of light coming from a front diffuser is dramatically improved over the shots posted.

Speaking of Ellis Vener, he reported in the May 2011 edition of Professional Photographer magazine: "...there’s no other monolight or pack and head system that sells for under $5,000 that offers the combination of control and light quality of the Einstein 640 v.2."

Several years ago, I remember telling Mr. Vener and others on PhotoNet about our terrific experience at Carl Photography with our WL 5000 and 10000 units. Now we also have three Einsteins and two X1600s, and we remain absolutely delighted. Our WLs have been poppin' for a quarter-century and never needed repair!

Pertaining to the current topic, many forums suck due to poor monitoring and are best avoided.

Not sure where you saw the reference, but usually it is Photography On The Net. It is a Canon centric forum, however there are a lot of other discussions about photography there.

Check out http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1020218

Lighting forum (FM) dead? "Since this light forum is pretty much dead where the hell are people discussing lighting now?"

Fred . . . I warned you that two separate FM polls indicated about 85% of your (former?) members expressed a desire for me to participate. You ran with your little group of hate mongers, and now even they are gone.

I'm not by nature a gloater but you collapsed your own forum by not moderating ethically.
