I have multiple UZ 1600s, bought them about 5 or 6 years ago and have not looked back. I absolutely love them, especially since they are made in the USA!

Now to my question, one of the heads has a modeling light flickering. I have tried changing the modeling bulb but it still does it. Do I need to send it in for service?

Be sure it is not a CFL, as that can cause all kinds of issues. Next, is the light plugged directly into a wall outlet, or is it plugged into a powerstrip? If into the wall, does it share a circuit with something using a very powerful motor, i.e. A/C unit, refridgerator, freezer, ect.? Does it continue if you change circuits? If plugged into a power strip, does it persist if plugged into the wall?

Additionally, unplug the light and remove the model lamp. At the base of the socket, you will see a metal tab that contacts the end of the bulb's base. Pry this toward you, and reinstall the model lamp, does the problem persist?

I have tried everything listed. It seems to happen when set at 1/2 or less power but not more. Ideas? Is this going to affect the strobe output or are they two different systems?

By setting it to 1/2 half power, are you referring to flash output or model putput or both. Also, by 1/2 power, do you mean 1/2 power or 1/2 way down the scale?

Modeling light, 1/2 way down the scale.

Either the issue is line noise, or perhaps a loose connection on the modeling lamp socket or circuitry. Since you have changed circuits, then line noise is unlikely. Can you wiggle the model lamp around when installed (thus wiggling the socket)? The unit will likely need to be sent in to properly diagnose the issue, and correct it.
