I am wondering if I can fire the b800 with sync cord attached to my d700 and simultaneously fire an off camera sb900 flash with Pocket Wizard attached to camera hot shoe?

What is best way to do this? Can the pocket wizard also fire the b800? And then the PW just fires both?

Or, can the Alien Bees' remote radios fire the Nikon sb900 as well as b800?

Thanks

yeah. it'll fire off the pocket wizard in the hot shoe with something in the sync port or you could even run a speedlight in the hotshoe and pocketwizard off the sync.

if you're gonna keep your AB sync-corded to your cam, there's no reason why you even need a PW trigger if you set the SB900 to SU-4 Slave Mode, assuming you're not covering a crazy distance or behind walls. The SB900's optical sensor should easily pick up a flash pop a few blocks away line-of-sight.

If you are wanting to reliably fire both lights, I would recommend a reciever for each light. If funds do not permit, you can run a cable from camera to one flash and remotes to the other in a variety of combinations.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like there r a variety of ways to do this. Since posting my OP I learned that I can put a PW on camera to fire the PW-equipped sb900 several feet away and then the sb900 fires the b800, which does not have a PW attached.

Can the b800 act as master? My current setup has b800 acting as slave.

Yes, as mentioned, the SB900 can be set to SU-4 mode. This is the standard slave mode for Nikon (as opposed to TTL/CLS slave mode). You will need to check your manual for specific instructions on how to set this.
