Post subject:  CSRB+ broken with SB-900

Ok so my current setup is as follows:

1 Einstein with CSXCV
1 Cyber Commander
1 CSRB+ (connected to my Nikon SB-900 speedlight)

I was able to get my cyber commander working with the einstein without issue, however I had spent hours trying to get the cyber commander to recognize the sb-900.

At first I was doing something wrong but after spending a lot of time playing around the problem was that the sync cable connecting the CSRB+ to the SB-900 was not fitting securely into the SB-900 and would not fire the speedlight.

The only way I was able to successfully fire the SB-900 was by physically holding the sync cable into the sb-900 with pressure. the sync cable would not fit securely into the speedlight.

I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and how to overcome it. The only reason I purchased the CSRB+ was to use my speedlight with my cyber commander.

I am not sure why the sync cable does not attach securely into the speedlight but there has to be a better way of utilizing the setup than having to physically press the cable secure.

I appreciate some advice on what I should do to get this issue resolved.

Thanks in advance.

I do this frequently using a CSRB with no issue, however mine is not the "+" version. Based on your description, I'm guessing you have a bad cable or a bad connector on your speedlight.

I just got off the phone with the guys at PCB and I was told to try using pliers to try and tighten the sync cable, and if that didn't work they would replace it for me under warranty :)

I can't wait to get home from work and try this.

Yes, the PC connection has a bit of adjustability to it by design. Even though a PC connection is "standard" there is some amount of variance allowed. Get a cord that may be slightly large and a socket slightly small, there will be a loose connection. Squeezing the connection will adjust it and get it to work. Also, it is easier to crimp a large connector than to spread one, so it is better to have one a little big than a little small.

If you "really" want to solve this problem, I've seen a cable that goes from 1/8 inch miniplug to the Nikon 3 pin screw-down flash connector. More reliable than the PC connector. I think it was from Flash Zebra.
