I received 2 Einsteins earlier this week. Not having had time to do much more than mount them up and fire off a few shots to see that they work, I was only now able to begin experimenting with a portrait setup, when I saw that one of the Einstein seemed to only flash intermittently on low power settings.

And then I caught a very faint whiff that reminds me somewhat of burned electronics. The well-functioning light does not have this smell.

- fw 22
- ready beep comes after every exposure, or when pressing test, wether or not there is a flash.
- setting power to 1/32 and I could make 10 test flashes in succession. Move it to 1/256 and 10 presses on test yields 0 flashes. Flash count increases.

-6.4 f seems to be the cutoff point. From there on down, no or intermittent flashing. Above that, seems to flash consistently.
-csxv connected
- color mode

Do more testing or contact cs for return?

A few additional details:

1. Light is connected to 220v power
2. When standing at the back if the unit, the right side is pretty warm where the power cord is connected. My other light is not noticeably warmer here.
3. Keeping the light at -6.5f or higher, and it seems to work flawlessly.
4. The whiff of electronics not in good shape is weak, dand I prey much have to put my nose to the front to smell it - but yesterday I did notice it from a foot or two away.
5. I think this light was connected to my Vagabond when the VBII blew its fuses. While I see there is talk about some inverters back from summer being bad, I'm thinking that maybe in thus case it was the light causing the problem. Maybe it would be worthwhile to try replacing the fuses on the vbii and test it on the other light?

I would contact customer service before you use the light or VII again. I do not recommend replacing the fuses on the VII, as it is likely needed to come in for repair. The Einstein will also likely need to come in.

Thanks. I've sent an email to CS, so we will see what they say.

*sigh*
