I would like to trigger a speedlight, with a white lightning unit I have. The speed light fires but not when the flash happens from the WL unit.

Simultaneously triggering a speedlight is certainly doable (at least with most speedlights). How are you triggering the WhiteLightning and speedlight now?

What kind of speedlight are you using?

I am using the sync cable that came with the WL to the PC connection on my camera. I am using a Canon 600EX-RT. The flash is firing but it appears, not at the same time as the WL unit.

Ok, how is the 600EX-RT triggered? Optically from the WhiteLightning? Optically from an ST-E2? Via radio ST-E3? Directly on the hotshoe? Via TTL cord?

IF you are using the in-built optical sensor of the 600EX-RT, I don't think that is functional a basic slave, only a "smart" slave that works with the morse code of the commander flash, even in manual mode.

However, I reserve the right to be wrong, and it may be possible. Since we are not intimately familiar with the Canon speedlite line, we can't say for sure. You may have more accurate with a Canon specific forum, or Canon tech support.

If you are using an add on slave eye, it should work, unless you are using a digital slave eye add on, which may be waiting for a secondary flash.

The last thing I can think of, is perhaps the 600EX-RT is going to sleep (power save), and has to wake up before it fires, causing it to be out of sync. I have seen this with radio remotes, and the problem is solved by extending or turning off the sleep timer.
