PCB no longer sells boom arms. The mini boom that you are looking at is probably the reflector holder :?:

Correct, we are no longer selling boom arms. However, the mini boom mentioned is a small extension arm. http://www.paulcbuff.com/mba.php. The reflector holder is a different item.

That's right, I forgot about the Baby Boomer.... even though I used one yesterday!

OK PowerEngineer, if you were going to hang an AB800 on a boom so you could use it for a hair light or something similar, what would you recommend now? I am looking at an Avenger D600....yes/no?

I might not be the best person to ask since I don't own a boom, yet. I'm actually shopping for one right now and will most likely go with either the Avenger D600 or Avenger A475B. Both are pretty well regarded. I'll probably go with the A475B to have the extra stand.

I don't think the Manfrotto 420 convertible stand or the other less expensive boom stands will be strong enough.

Thank You for your help I think I'll go with Avenger D600 Price is right and it looks solid. Another $100 to get the A475B w/ the stand included. I wonder is it a good solid stand any one know about this stand?

I use this Westcott boom arm and I have been pleased with it.

ltwimberly - Thanks for the heads-up on the Westcott boom!

CS5 - I'm still undecided but leaning towards the separate boom arm over the combi-stand. I like the idea of the combi-stand and that the avenger stand has a lazy leg but the separate arm and stand are probably a bit more versatile.

You are right about the price too.... for slightly less than the combi-stand cost you can get a D600 (or Westcott) plus a 13' heavy-duty air cushioned stand plus a drop down pin. The stand can be modded easily to give it a lazy leg.
