I am contemplating purchasing a Sekonic meter and would like to know if the 358 with the RT-32 will trigger the PowerMC2. Will I need to purchase any other accessories?

Thanks in advance!
Jon

I believe it will seamlessly trigger MC2 equipped Einsteins. TS knows more than I on this subject and should be weighing in soon. BTW, EU versions of MC2 are slated for sometime next month according to LPA.

I have the L758DR (same specs with 358)and was able to make it work with MC2:

1) In Einstein/MC2, using standard channels between 1 - 16, zone NA. In L758DR, I set the channel the same as MC2.
2) In Einstein/MC2, using the standard channels between 17 -32, zone A, B, C. In L758DR, I set the channel the same as Einstein/MC2 and selected appropriate zone to match MC2.

However, so far, I was not able to make it work using the ControlITL channels ins Einstein/MC2. I have an old L758DR, so it was not programmed to use the PW's new ControlITL.

In the same token, according to PW's Wiki - http://wiki.pocketwizard.com/index.php?title=Channels , it indicates that there are some overlap between the standard and ControlITL channels' frequencies. I still have to try the following to see if it will work:
1) In Einstein/MC2, set channel to a CTL-# (i.e. CTL-5) with overlapping frequency, zone A.
2) In L758DR, set the channel to 17, zone A.

Just tried this and it does work. Thanks for the link.

Same problem here. I called TS and David is working on it.

Update:

I got a response from LPA.

Gregg,

Although you're correct that they'll be using the same frequency, the Standard Channel will not trigger the ControlTL channel, as they use an entirely different data structure for their over-the-air communications.

Thanks,

Ian

The Power MC2 is entirely an LPA product. We cooperated with them in interfacing it to Einstein, and they are very technically astute. For sure, you need the latest Einstein firmware upgrade to use MC2.

I stand corrected. It cannot trigger a CTL command from the RT32. I wish I could explain how this got confused, but I cannot.

Thanks everyone for their input! Since the Flex, Mini, and PowerMC2 run on Control TL channels, I'm guessing that using the Sekonic meter (which runs on "standard channels") in the traditional way of metering flash output, adjust flash output, and shoot can't be done very easily using the AC3 zone controller since they operate on two different channel sets? :o

Ian from pocketwizard say they are currently working with sekonic to get a trigger working with ControlTL
