Hi,

I am planning to invest in the Einstein 640 + Vagabond Mini + the Mola Setti beauty dish. Can anyone advise if the current speedring for Alienbees (sold on B&H Photo Video) can work with the Einstein?

Also, I saw some online videos for recycling time test for Einstein, which comes up to 3.5-4 secs for fully charged Einstein on Vagabond at full power. Appreciate anyone's verification!

Cheers

While standard AB-compatible speed ring inserts (of the proper diameter) will work with the Demi, you might want to consider getting Jerry Kacey's AB adapter. The Kacey adapter is perfectly flat and, consequently, moves the flashtube forward into the dish where it belongs:

"Kacey Adapter for Mola to PCB Flashes

The Kacey Adapter for Mola Softlights is the only adapter engineered specifically for PCB’s line of flashes. Standard doomed adapters do not work well with the Mola’s when used on PCB flashes. They hide the flash tube in the adapter and force the light forward through the center diffuser and not allowing it to scatter and bounce properly off the walls on the dish like a Mola used with other high end flashes. The Kacey Adapter solves this issue by placing the flash tube as far into the dish as possible.

I use the Kacey adapter with my einsteins and it works great. I use the Kacey beauty dish, which is a plastic copy of the Mola. I'm happy with the quality of the part and the quality of the light. They have a metal grid available too. You might want to check it out before you pull the trigger on the Mola. Another benefit is they make a speedlight adapter than can be swapped out really quickly to change between a speedlight and studio strobe like the einstein.

The recycle time (and all the other spec's as well )of my Einsteins have always matched what PCB advertised.

The Kacey dish = size of Mola Demi

The Mola Setti is bigger...

Do you have any pictures of this adapter and stein together?

I don't own a Mola but can show you a Speedotron dish with Kacey adapter mounted on an Einstein:

With the Kacey adapter, the Einstein's flashtube is positioned fully inside the BD:
