Post subject:  How to meter ambient light with Cyber Commander?

Hi,
I followed these instructions:
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1004

But I am confused. I have assigned the 'Undefined' to a free channel and I do not see the yellow marker on the graph. The meter almost always reads <1.0. If I place the meter on the top of a light is meters about 8.0. What I wanted to do was to read the light coming from a window to balance with the flash.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

If you get the <1.0 reading, it means it is out of range of the CC, as in underexposed. Increase your ISO or decrease your shutterspeed, and see what the meter says. Depending on what your light source is, I cannot say it is abnormal, but it does not sound like it if you are inside. The yellow marker is a really thin yellow line at the very bottom just above the green dash (when the reading is <1.0).

Thank you for the prompt reply.

I have adjusted speed and ISO and there is some reading but I still do not see the yellow bar. I have followed the instruction i.e. set channel 4 (I have 3 Einsterins) SPEC LIGHTS menu, define your ambient light channel as OTHER> UNDEFINED
but I still do not see the yellow bar if, for instance, there is a reading of f/5.6.2

Am I missing something?

Thanks again.

Are you metering from ALL or from the individual channel? The yellow dashes appear as each channel is metered to give you a reference point from light to light. In the ALL channel setting, new yellow dashes will not appear, only those already there from the individual flash meterings.

Scroll to CH4 and meter. If the meter reading is sensible (f/4, f/11 etc) then the yellow dash should appear.

Hi,
I am metering the 4th channel, (not all) i.e. the one I assigned the undefined. Nevertheless the yellow line does not appear on the screen.
Thanks

I think the answer is, that metering an unassigned channel will show the digital reading, but will not display the yellow dot because the channel is not assigned.
