Post subject:  Cyber Commander documentation clarifications?

I'm a little confused by the Cyber Commander manual. I could use some clarification.

My configuration is a couple of Einsteins, an ABR800 and a few B800s. The Bees all have CSR+ or CSRB+ receivers. I have entered all the units into the Cyber Commander, complete with the wattage of the various modeling lights.

On page 2 of the manual it says that the CC automatically compensates for the different modeling light to power ratios of my various lights. On page 12 it seems to say that I have to manually compensate for different ratios.

If I have correctly entered the model numbers of my Bees and associated modeling lamp wattages, can I ignore the manual override and rely on the CC's automatic compensation?

Is there any documentation on the typical use for groups? It would be very helpful if there were some examples of how to use them.

Here's what I think they are for:

I can create a group for "Background lights". When I want to change the overall light on the background, I go to the "Background" group. All other lights go out. I can then raise or lower the power of the lights as a whole. I then need to go back to the main screen to re-enable the rest of the lights so I can shoot.

Is this correct?

If I want to take some shots without the background lights, How do I turn off all the lights in a group?

Speaking of Modeling lights, the standard config of the ABR 800 is 80 watts of modeling light. This doesn't seem to be one of the choices when entering the Specs for the ABR800. Shouldn't it be one of the options?

Page 5 of the manual tells me that "Some names are pre-programmed, such as “Left Main”, “Right Hair”, “Center Fill”." How do I enter other names (ones that are not pre-programmed)? If only names from the pre-programmed list can be entered, should the manual be changed to "You can assign a name from the built-in list")

My understanding is the the CC configuration is stored in a file on the Micro SD card. It would be great if there was a web page that let me create configurations. On a web page it would be easy to type in the names of lights, the names of groups, the names for configurations. The web page could then generate the config file for me to put on the SD card.

It would be great if there was an easy way to turn an individual light off. Perhaps, turning down the power level past the minimum power level should turn the light "off" (perhaps you would need to hold "power down" for a half second or so after hitting minimum power to shut off the light).

Using modeling lights with modifiers such as grids or softboxes, can really heat things up. When shooting I sometimes want to turn off all the the modeling lights to avoid overheating. Sometimes I turn modeling lights off after the lights are set, or during a break. Is there an easy way (or can one be added) to turn off all the modeling lights? ideally I would love the functionality of the switch on the LG4X which allows the modeling lights to be set to "Off" (to save power and heat), "Track" (to pre-visualize the results), or "Full" (to make it easy to aim the lights).

Thanks for any help.

The automatic compensation (when power is adjusted) is for adjustments after the initial equilzation is performed. If the Bees all have 150W bulbs, then you will be pretty darn close to WYSIWYG at the default settings. If you wanted to be academic about it, dropping the model lamps of the Bees from 150W to 125W would be a perfect ratio. That clarificaton is already in the works.

That is certainly one use for them. Another would be to easily and temporarily remove a light from a set up. Like a hair light, or if shooting a dance floor, you can deselct a light that would be shining into the lens. The anoter group could deselect a different light as you change positions. See below for more information

It depends on what you mean by "off". You can certainly switch them off by the power switch (but that is not why you bought a remote, right ;)).

You can go to SETUP>LIGHT SETTINGS> POWER=STANDBY. Make sure you are set to channel GRP1 (or what ever group you are using).

Or, if you will regularly exclude a light (such as a hair or BG light), you can create a group that has all of the other lights in it. Then it is a matter of changing from ALL to GRP2.

They are 10W at a certain voltage. When in the ABR800, they are run at a higher voltage, and are therefore equal to 150W.

Those name are the only ones to choose from. I will pass along the suggestion about the verbage used in the manual.

I can pass that suggestion along. However, given the resources that requires vs. teh resources we have to do that, it is unlikely.

While that may be possible, that would destroy the ratios already set in the CC. Making use of preset groups or using different SD locations would be almost as fast or faster.

SETUP>LIGHT SETTINGS>MODEL MODE=OFF (Also be sure you are in the ALL channel setting)
