Is there a recommended reflector for use with a PLM to eliminate the spill to the sides? I'm using the speedring configuration so it would need to be compatible with that if possible.

The PCB umbrella reflector is meant to block spill to the sides. You can't mount a reflector and a speedring at the same time though. You'd need to mount the PLM using the umbrella bracket on top and mount the reflector using the fingers.

If you are mounting a PLM to an AB, Einstein, etc, using the mounting ring option provided with the PLM, and properly positioning the umbrella shaft (the thumbscrew should go into the hole on the sliding shaft), you should have little or no spill at all.

If you are getting a lot of spill to the sides, you may not be mounting the light deep enough into the umbrella. The provided mount is set up to properly position it, but also to allow you to move the light out of the focus point of the parabola, if you don't want the column of light effect.

I set mine up when I first got it, put it near a wall, with the light directed parallel to the wall (not at it) and there was almost no light hitting the wall at all. There are some reflections off the "tripod" on the speed ring, but only a small amount.

I can vouch for this... I used softboxes and when I switched to 86" and 64" PLM's I was also concerned about spill but it turned out to not be an issue.

In this case, spill is "raw" light that is not hitting the modifier. Instead, it is coming from the flash tube and going straight out into the world. The optimal mounting point for a PLM is to have the flash tube even with the PLM edge. If the flash tube is further out then some of the light can miss the modifier and spill out.
