I switched on the 1600 today, noticed a spark where the flashtube is connected, then there was a deafening bang. I unplugged it and ran. Came back a bit later thinking the flash was done for, but the lights were actually still working. The only thing is, it flashes once, then the lights don't come back on unless I switch it off then on again, so it's got to be a power issue in the strobe. Is this a common thing? I've had my lights for about 3 years now, never had a problem with them.

Sounds like a blown capacitor. That will need to come in for repair. And no, this is not a common occurance.
