Post subject: | Firmware update fail...CC v40 |
I have downloaded the version 40 firmware. Bought a new Sandisk 2gb card. Followed the instructions to upgrade. The CC gets stuck in a loop of flashing white screen followed by "Cyber Commander FW Ver 29". Tried with a second card, same results. Any suggestions? I have reformatted to FAT, and repeated the install procedures with the same results. Using both Quick and not Quick format. |

Upon further examination of the memory card: I started with a non-quick format, then downloaded and unzipped the PCBUFF folder of files. Copied the one folder to the card. After CC flashed and would not do the update I now find the PCBUFF directory listed many times on the card. Like the CC was building a new folder each time it flashed white. |

You are formatting to FAT on a PC? FAT on a PC is FAT16, and correct. FAT on a Mac is FAT32, and will not work. If it is a PC, format and load the firmware as normal. Once on the card, click through the folders until you reach the Configs, Firmware, and Load folders. Open the Firmware and Load folders to ensure they only have one "0130-R40.hex" file in each. If you have extra files, delete them. If you do not have extra files, delete the file in the LOAD folder. Safely remove the SD card and reinstall it into the CC. You should not get the white screens at this time. Scroll to the SETUP>ADVANCED CONFIGURATION>BOOTLOAD. Use your left joystick to highlight 0130-R40.hex then press in on the right joystick. At this point the white flashing should commence as normal. Again, this should last only 25-30 seconds. |

Yes, I'm using a PC and formatting FAT, not FAT32 or exFAT. When I delete the LOAD directory files from the card and redo the install procedures I continue to get a white flashing screen followed by V29 firmware. Are there any other tricks to try? |

When it pulls up the main screen, even if it flashes, try going to SETUP>ANDVANCED CONGIFURATIONS>BOOTLOAD and select it from there as described above. |

When it flashes it gets in a loop and does not allow any control from the buttons. It flashes, shows the firmware v29, then flashes then shows firmware 29, etc. I can never get to a menu. |

For what is it worth, I went out and bought a second new memory card and adapter. This time a PNY 2gb card. It also does not allow me to install the firmware...same problems with getting in a loop. When I try the manual install by deleting the LOAD directory hex file I get exactly the same results. So far I have spent about 5 hours on this and spent $28 on new cards and adapters. At this point it is beyond my capability to upgrade. <sigh> |

For the sake of evaluation, what happens if you put a formatted card in the CC with no files on it? |

When I put a freshly formatted empty card in it, the CC comes up to its main menu. FWIW, I've also tried starting out by formatting in the CC. It doesn't matter where it is formatted, I get the same results in not being able to update. |

Are you able to save and retrieve set ups from the CC on either of those cards? For the purposes of this test, you can save whatever is on the Cyber Commander currently as SD50. Then alternate opening SD50 and any other location, regardless of what is actually on it (including nothing). Also try letting the CC go to sleep and attempting to open again. Additionally, it may not be a bad idea to remove and reinstall the card and attempting to open the locations. This will determine if the card/reader is working otherwise in the right manner. |
