Has anyone else had issue with the Einstein flash "leaking" through the cooling vents? I've done some controlled light set up and light comes through the vents. I've had to gaffer tape over the cooling vents, turn off the modeling bulbs and pray the unit doesn't overheat. I don't notice this issue with setups that are more "light bomb" oriented.

The amount of light you're talking about is inconsequential.

I'll shoot an example next week and send it to you so you can see what I'm talking about.

Thanks! Some of them were done with Alien Bees and some were done with Einsteins.

Rather than straight taping over the lights you might consider making gaffer tape louvers or using some screen. This way you still get airflow while also blocking the light.

FWIW, I haven't found this to be an issue with my Einsteins.

I suppose under extremely unique usage that this might be a concern, but I have not encountered it. Rather than tape over the vents, which seems like a really bad (potentially warranty-voiding) idea, buy some cinefoil (roll costs around 25-30 bucks, maybe). It is incredibly useful stuff for many applications, but you should be able to make some custom shaped flags that block the light but leave airflow unhindered.

I take back my original post - I just did some additional testing and I was wrong and Paul is right. Any light coming from the cooling vents is absolutely inconsequential.

Ahh, the rarest of message board finds.... a mea culpa! It is always good to see someone exhibit class and respect on the internet. Nice!
