I m going to start shooting more outside and hopefully more wedding groups, I just shot a large group last weekend and actually needed more fill lighting. I m considering buying 2 Plms, and was thinking of buying 2 different sizes, and was going to try to use the 64 in studio. I m also going to buy the diffusers for these...the plms i want are the Silver extremes....My question is should i buy 2 of the same size or would it be ok to mix sizes when shooting a large group? Just a note, that review was done with v.1 PLM's and some information may not be 100% accurate with the newer versions (it will likely be close, with the v2's performing better overall). That said, in our testing @14', 51", 64", and 86" silver PLM's all meter virtually the same (within 1 or 2/10). So, you should not see an intensity difference between them (and if you did, you can adjust one light to match). Also, size is relative to distance to subject. If the PLM's were close, then you could see a coverage or softness diference. At distances far enough to cover groups, the difference in size will not impact the image. You should not have any problems mixing PLM sizes. |

It wasn't my question, but I feel that I have to say this. It is so refreshing to see this level of technical support being provided. It is not something that happens at many other companies, when I see it I just have to say thank you. PCB is truly an amazing one-of-a-kind company. Fred |

For large groups, even rather than dramatic lighting is important. I would use the largest PLM but make it soft silver with a delusion panel in front. |
