After received my PLMs last week, I did a few setup tests with an Einstein. I think the speedring cage assembly isn't very solid. The weak part is on the connection between a wing bolt and a positioning shaft, which carries all weight of a PLM.
Before Paul or someones come out a good solution, I will use one light-stand for a large size PLM (64" or 84") and one light-stand for a light, an Einstein for my case. I need to use an umbrella adapter to hold a PLM on its end. Since the umbrella rod is too small for the umbrella holder on the adapter, the positioning shaft needs to get into the holder. At least one more hole is needed on the another end of the shaft.

I am having problems visualizing how you will be stting up the second stand.

However, we have not had any complaints regarding the speedring cage to umbrella assembly. What specific problem are you trying to overcome?
