I have 2 early 1990's vintage Ultra 600 units. I just picked up the Mini Lithium and I love it.

Just one question-I'm not getting nearly the number of pops at full power (about 250ws I think) that is stated in the specs. Might this be due to older circuitry; maybe analog components vs. newer digital?

Would an Alien Bee 800 help in this regard? Thanks.

p.s.-any idea why the VML won't charge an iphone?

Assuming the VML is fully charged, which is to say the LED on the charger did turn red while charging, then turned green when complete, you should get 800-1000 shots with one light at full power (300Ws). A big drain of power would be the model lamp, so be sure it is off. A 150W bulb would drain the unit in less than an hour without any shots from the light.

Your iPhone will not charge via the USB probably because it requires a 5VDC 1A power supply. The VML USB provides a 5VDC .5A supply. However, a wall charger plugged into the AC outlet will easily charge the phone.
