Hi there,

I bought my first Einstein a few weeks ago and the Easy Set Button works as described in the manual: pressing the button sets the unit to full flash power and full power modeling lamp.
Yesterday a received three more Einsteins. All three units set thier flash power and the modeling lamp to minimal power if the Easy Set Button is pressed. I think that this is much better. Is there a way to change the Easy Set Button for my first Einstein so that it works just like the new ones?

Regards,
Michael

First, I appologize, the manual stating the E640 goes to full power is an error, and will be addressed immediately.

You say yours is going to full power? Does the bar graph on the back of the light go to full power, or are you judging this by the visual intensity of the model lamp?

Sorry for the delay - I was ill.
I checked my Einstein today - and the flash power/modeling lamp is set to minimal power. I'm confused because I was convinced that the flash behaves just as described in the manual. Now you say the manual is wrong. I'll have an eye on that but for the moment everything is okay I guess. Sorry for the confusion.

Regards,
Michael

Ok, having reread the manual, it is confusing but not "wrong". It states the model lamp tracks the flash output and produces 250W at full power. But, it never states that it is set to full power. Or minimum power. You can have your model lamps track flash power, but have them set to a lower or higher relative-to-full power setting.

Example, I want to shoot at minimum flash power so that I can get a shallow DoF. But, no one can see in the studio and I cannot easily focus if I keep my model lamps set to -8f. I can raise my model lamps to -5f, while my flash is set to -8f. But if I need more power from my flash, I can raise it by 3f to -5f, and the model lamp will raise (track) by 3f to -2f.

This sentence is supposed to reflect the relative powers of each are harmonized. The level to which they set themselves to are part of the programming of the firmware, and is minimum power and has been since at least v.22. There is no way for a user to change the characteristics or for them to be incorrectly set at the factory. It would have to be an error (or change) in the firmware version for it to be different.

What I would suspect happened is there was a Cyber Commander involved which set them to FULL.
