Would I be ok using an Extreme Silver PLM with front diffuser covering the Einstein 640 under light rain? Will the rain drop through the back of the PLM if it's aiming down 45 degrees?

Interesting question. Although I do not know if water will soak into the fabric, my gut says that it might. So not knowing if you need an answer right away, here's a few thoughts assuming that you must use it like that. Tech Sup... jump in anytime :shock:
Try to waterproof it yourself. Maybe use silicon spray? Hope that doesn't soak in and discolor it. Might protect the fabric but still soak through.
Cover the flash with plastic. Tape the hole where the PLM shaft goes thru. Model light off.
Put one piece of tape on the PLM shaft a few inches in front of the flash, upside U shape to act as a drip off tab.
Concerned about added weight from water. Think about extra support or a spare person to watch it.
GFI on power cord.
Can you set up a tent over top of everything. Or cover the PLM with a tarp.
Water that soaks through will need to come out somewhere. So your front diffuser will get wet and heavy. Can the bottom be left hanging to let out the water?
Be prepared to dry the metal arms on the PLM to prevent rust.

Given that they are photographic umbrellas and not rain umbrellas, they were not designed with waterproofing in mind. We have not done any spray tests to give you an accurate recommendation. A misty rain would probably be OK, but substantial rain may not be. Also, remember rain and wind often travel in pairs. Even if the wind does not knock over the light, the wind may blow it into places it should not be.

Thanks for the feedback, let's hope it doesn't rain now =) If it does, I'll do my best to waterproof the Einstein and Vagabond with plastic bags open at the bottom for the heat.
