Hi people,

I have a 47inch octabox, a sturdy lightstand and an AB800.
Sadly, Paul C. Buff doesn't make boom arms (I really don't know why).
Which one do you guys recommend me?

Thanks!

A boom with a 5/8 stud, and a 10lb counterweight should be fine. If you are using one of our stands, get a boom that clamps around the top section of the stand and does not mount to the top stud.

I use the Manfrotto 025 Superboom and it kicks serious butt. I have an Einstein mounted on it with a Mola Demi beauty dish. It may be overkill for some people but this set up allows you to aim the light anywhere you want simply by turning one or two cranks at the opposite end of the boom arm. It's simply awesome and highly recommended. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/546565-REG/Manfrotto_025BS_025BS_Super_Boom_with.html

I also use an Avenger D600 and it's much smaller and portable for location use. It doesn't have the same adjustability as the Manfrotto but it can be used with most any heavy duty stand. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/3599-REG/Avenger_D600_D600_Mini_Boom_3_8.html

I also have a Manfrotto 025 Superboom and echo ImageX's thoughts.... the thing is a beast and will hold anything you throw at it. Inside the studio (with casters) it is fantastic. It is a geared boom meaning that you can rotate the light from the low end by turning a crank. However, it is also very heavy, very $$$, and not friendly for location work.

Other good options are the Avenger D600 (boom arm) and Avenger A4039CS (combi-stand). Lighter duty options are the Avenger A475B and Manfrotto 420NSB (both combi-stands) but I wouldn't trust these lighter stands with a B800 and 47-inch octa.

Also remember to get a drop down pin and safety cable to complete the package.... and more sandbags, water bottles, your or whatever your chosen stand weight is.

Here is another thread on booms too: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2461&p=12512&hilit=boom+combi#p12512

I too have a D600 and I don't have a heavy enough c-stand for it. I sand bag the crap out of it but I can stick it way out there. I am saving for a A4039.....should have gotten one in the first place but though I would try what I had first before buying more stuff.
