Just got my new Vagabond II (this is a back up to the one I already have) and when I first charged it it made kind of a sound that sounded like leaking. I took it off the charger and tested it and it made the same sound. It's been charging for a few hours now and the sound stopped. IT only made the sound when charging and when on. I don't remember the otherone making the noise.

yeah, i just got mine yesterday. same thing. my first though, so no prior experience. I read that the first charge it'll make a noise and then it should subside. I gave it a full charge though, unplugged it for a few hours and it made the same r2d2 kinda whine but soon went away. i'm hoping its normal.

Yes this sound is normal on units we are now shipping. It will happen on heavy charging load as well as a when on. The sound will also get louder if you turn your model lamps on when using the VII (this is not recommended for long term, as it will rapidly drain the battery). When charging, it will go away as the charge nears completion.

Same thing here, and I now understand that is normal but it scared the crap out of my initially. I think some hint about this in the manual would be nice.

Also the manual makes a lot of threats and warning about the battery "sulfating". it might be nice to explain exactly what that is in the manual as well.
