I have seen talk on the Net about Alien Bee Boom Arm, but I cannot find any on the site. Does alien bee still sell these ? If not what boom arm is suggested and will work with the alien bee strobes and medium to large softbox ?

Thanks...

We discontinued the boom arm in OCT 09. Westcott sells one almost identical to it for about the same price at B&H. If using it with our stands, be sure it clamps to the column and not to the top post.

Thank you very much for the reply.

This is the first time I will encounter using a boom arm, so I am not familiar with how they work. Per your advice, will I need to buy an extra clamp ? Can you please post a link to the boom arm you are suggesting ? I sure would appreciate that, as I am so new buying one of these.

I own 2 alien bee heavy duty light stands and will be attaching it to one of those to hoist a medium or large softbox.

Thanks..

AB's heavy duty stands seem to do the trick, they have the required diameter to clamp the Westcott boom. I found the boom on B&H Photo's site as WEBA6.5K

With this boom you will not need anything but the heavy duty stand and the WEBA6.5K

I had pretty much the same question hehe :)

Awesome.. Thank you...

So I don't need to buy anything else to retrofit ? That is good news...lol I am going broke, it seems every time I turn around there is something else I need..ha..

I hear ya. Between AB and B&H I've recently dropped over $2k on my home studio ventures so I do feel your pain. Though this is a drop in the bucket for 'real' studios, let's just say I hope to make it up sooner rather than later.

I do own both of these items you seek, so if you haven't ordered yet and need some measurements I'd be happy to help.

Good luck!
