Post subject: | 7 basic questions - CC with Nikon flashes |
I just received my CC and 3 CSRB+s in the mail today and I have a few basic questions regarding their use with speedlights. 1. I picked up the SLFA hotshoe adapter for use with my SB-600s. Does it matter if I use the 1/8-inch adapter or the PC jack to connect the CSRB+ to the adapter? Is one better then the other? 2. I'm using a D700. Does it matter what I have my flash settings set to within the D700 menu? For example, under the menu I can set it to manual, commander mode, or to TTL, even though I'm not using the pop-up flash built into the camera. 3. Am I limited on my nikon flashes (SB-600, 800, and 900) to only having it in manual mode when using the CC and CSRB+? I understand that it cannot to i-ttl or use the built in CLS option to set the speedlights as remote flashes (groups abc and channel 123 for example). 4. Is connecting the CC directly to the hotshoe of my camera the same difference as if I were to connect it to the PC sync port with the cable that came with the CC? 5. I read on here that I can turn off the standby mode for the SB-900 if there's a delay between shots. Is this also true for the other nikon flashes listed above? Will doing a refresh on the CC wake up the speedlights or am I left with having to go around to each flash and wake them up manually? 6. For my current setup (I plan to pick up a few ABs in the next 24 months), is my CC basically a simple remote trigger with a built in lightmeter? 7. I cannot trigger my Nikon flashes when set below 1/32 power when connected to the CSRB+. Is this correct? Thanks! |

Either can be used, but the 1/8" is typically regarded as a better connection. stayathomedad wrote: 2. I'm using a D700. Does it matter what I have my flash settings set to within the D700 menu? No, it does not matter, as long as the hoshoe is still active (I am not sure it can be deactivated on that camera, but it can on Canons). stayathomedad wrote: 3. Yes, but I do not recommend doing both simultaneously. stayathomedad wrote: 5. I read on here that I can turn off the standby mode for the SB-900 if there's a delay between shots. This is true for most flashes on the market, and specifically all three of your flashes. Doing a "refresh" would not wake up the flashes, though a test fire may. stayathomedad wrote: 6. It will trigger, meter, and you can assign groups. stayathomedad wrote: 7. I cannot trigger my Nikon flashes when set below 1/32 power when connected to the CSRB+. Is this correct? This is the first I have heard of this. I am fairly certain during my tests, we dialed them to lowest power with no misfiring. |
