Pleas see the Firmware announcement thread if you have not already done so. http://www.paulcbuff.com/pcb2009/cybercommander-instructions.html If you require any assistance in upgrading your firmware, to V29, please posts in this forum. By keeping it in one place, other users may be able to find answers to thier questions more easily. To keep confusion to a minimum, There will be two threads, this one for assistance in updating the Cyber Commander. The other will be for questions and posts regarding the features, benefits and general conversation. Please keep the conversation to firmware 22, 27, or 29. Please do not discuss any future firmware requests/possibilities in either of these two posts. |

Is there some reason why I should not just copy my Old files off the original SD card, wipe the card, copy the new files, restore the old setups - all back onto the original SD card? |

Is there any reason I cannot re-use the card already in the CC? I really hate to go buy a new card I will never use. |

Nevermind, I just used the card in my Blackberry. Worked fine. One thing I did notice, the new firmware took only about a half second to load, no white screen for 20 or 30 seconds. It did say Version 29 at the bottom though. Brian |

Short answer: you can use any formatted card (FAT16) Long answer: There are several reasons to our approach. First is saving the set ups, if any are saved. Transferring the files back and forth led to difficulty in both having the update work, as well as writing concise instructions that were thorough, yet not so drawn out as to cause confusion. If you forwent the file transfer, then you would lose the set ups. Additionally, formatting a card will vary from operating system to operating system (especially in Macs) and doing a thorough explaination for all systems would be overwhelming, not only for us, but some end users. With the cards being relatively in expensive (especially for low capacity ones), we chose this course of action to be the best, overall. |

My Cyber Commander is now dead. I downloaded the new firmware and unzipped it. Pulled a battery from the Cyber Commander and then took out the SD card. Copied the unzipped folder to a new sd card and inserted it into the Cyber Commander. Put in the battery ..... and nothing ..... nothing at all. Pulled the battery, took out the card and put in the original card put in the battery .... and nothing .... nothing at all. No matter what I do now, the CC will not turn on. It no longer works at all. Please advise. BTW - I am quite knowledgeable with computers and the proper procedures for ejecting cards, etc., etc. original firmware version was 22, if that helps. Thanks |

I had to do the "insert batteries and card" trick about 6 times before it finally took. Mine played dead just as yours. First time I thought it updated, it really didn't. I know it sounds stupid, but keep trying. (mine did kill a new set of lithiums shortly after, but thats another thread :x ) Brian |

My update went without a hitch, updating from the original version (serial number 001101). Be sure to have pulled a battery out of the CC, because that's the only way to fully cut the power. I have two cards, but actually used only one for the update. The firmware download, after being fully unzipped, will contain a PCBUFF folder with a CCMDR subfolder. Inside that will be CONFIGS, FIRMWARE, and LOAD subfolders. The CONFIGS folder of the download is empty. If you've got any saved configurations, they will be in the CONFIGS folder of your old card. So you want to copy the FIRMWARE and LOAD folders to the card and avoid overwriting the CONFIGS folder. Alternately, you could copy the CONFIGS folder from the old card into the CCMDR folder on the hard drive, then copy the entire thing to the card, overwriting everything. When you put the battery back in, the update will begin immediately. |

I have been playing that game for over an hour now. Pulled the battery(ies) at least 20 times. Even tried a third set of batteries. I have a feeling this thing is going back for repairs, exchange ...... bummer. Again ... I followed the instructions to the letter. SN 001029 |
