Post subject: | CyberSync extension cord? |
I was shooting with 3 E640 + CyberSync and was having a range issue caused by positioning. My lights were all behind me, 50 to 100ft away. They had reflectors on them, and were pointing up at about a 45-60deg angle for a bounce off the ceiling (over my head and lighting in front of me. The rf path from camera to the CyberSync antenna was straight through my head and also through the reflectors (twice - both sides). I was having intermittent flash triggering; about 15% one or two did not fire. If I turned around so the rf signal did not go through me, no noticeable change. If I walked way off to the side, so that the rf path was to the side of the Einsteins, I had perfect triggering from about 200' away (as far as I could get). Could not get behind the lights. So I am concluding the metal of the reflector was blocking the CyberSync rf signal. My question is... Can I make some sort of extension cable to let the CyberSync hang below the Einstein? Thinking about 12 inches long. I know I have the skills to build it, but do you think it will work? Has anyone tried this yet? Do you have something for sale? Do you think ribbon cable would work? Could you provide a description for the pin functionality so I can understand which pins might need a shielded wire, or twisted wires, or ??? Any guidance and help would be greatly appreciated. |

We do not have an extension cable. However, you can get a CSRB, set it to repeater mode, and position it between the trigger and receivers. It can also be used as a reciever and act as a repeater simultaneously. We cannot release detailed information regarding the specifics of any of our products' design. |

Without identifying functions, could you give a little guidance please? Is it possible to identify what pin(s) are ground? And would I use a shielded wire for all other lines or would you think a ribbon cable would work? I thought about the repeater function, but I am trying to avoid single points of failure. Thank you |

According to our engineer, if you were to use a ribbon cable, you would need one with an integrated shield. We have not done any testing of this sort, so we are limited to what kind of feedback we can provide. |

I understand exactly what that means. Need just one piece of information... Which pin is ground (where I should connect the shield to)... and can you describe it with more than just the pin number; also would need to know orientation... is pin 1 is closest to the edge, or furthest. Thank you so much. I will report back with info. |

The ground pin is #2. Pin 1 is identified as the pin on the far left, if the antenna is up and on the right (i.e. you are looking at the non-screen printed side), and the pins are down. Pin 2 will be one pin to the right. |
