Follow these steps in order. Note when the flash fails to fire. This will help pinpoint the problem.
First, make sure the flash is in manual mode (M), and the slave options are off (the slave appears as a "z" shape with an arrow). For theh purposes of testing, reduce the power of the speedlite to a low setting (this will save batteries and speed up recycle times).
Press the "pilot" button to ensure the flash will fire.
Connect the CSRB to the flash via the PC cable, and press the test button on the reciever to wake the flash up. You should have a green LED blinking every coule of seconds.
Press this button again and the flash unit should fire.
Note the frequency dial of the reciever. There is a slot cut into this dial, whith a darker/deeper cut on one end. This end is pointing to the selected frequency (odd frequencies are marked, even ones are unmarked and lie in between)
On the transmitter, there is an identical dial. Make sure the same frequency is seleceted.
Press the test button on the transmitter (press three times if you changed the frequency. The first two will be frequency reset, and no respone is expected from the reciever or light). When the test button on the transmitter is pressed, the flash should fire, the reciever's LED should blink red, and the transmitters button should blink red. Press this button as many times as necessary to determine if these are happening.
On the camera, make sure you are not in live view (certain live view modes will work, but some wont on Canon cameras, so turn it off for the time being). Install the CST into the hotshoe and press the shutter button. When this is done, both LED's for the transmitter and reciever will blink red, and the flash should fire.
If you do not get response from the transmitter, ensure your hotshoe is active. Many Canon cameras have the option to disable the hotshoe/PC connections, and for some reason this is disabled on many Canon users I talk to. If the hotshoe needs to be enabled, try again from the shutter button.
If you do not end up with the flash firing from the shutter button, let me know which is the first point in this list the flash fails, and we will work from there.
