Hi everyone,

Curious if anyone is using Einsteins with Hassy Digital? If someone could explain if and how one would use the Einsteins with Hassy Digital, I would really appreciate it.

Im considering making the jump to MF but have no clue how I would integrate my Einsteins!

I actually can't see how the usage of einsteins would differ from using them with a regular DSLR?

I mean, I don't own or use digital HASSY, but I use my AB lights with both, dslr and film MF cameras, and it's the same. I even think digital hasselblads have a hotshoe mount, that would fit the CC, don't they?

I'm thinking the same thing ShOo, but was hoping for a bit of confirmation from someone using the combo.

Lights are lights, no matter which camera you use. Would you use natural light any differently?

The only differences i could see would be in synchronization, but that should affect all lights equally, and is more of an operational issue than compatability issue.

Hi - I now have a Hasselblad H4D40, and have tried it with my AB800's. It works at lowish sync speeds (1/200th) but not the full 1/800th that the Hassy leaf shutters allow. Can anyone confirm that if I move to Einsteins that the flash output would be compatible with sync at 1/800th? I have a Vag Mini power pack and want to shoot outside at wide apertures, nuking the sun.

If it is out of sync (i.e. there is no flash contribution) with Bees, then the E640's would likely not sync either (under identical circumstances).

To be honest, I am not super familiar with the Hasselblads, so I will speculate a bit.

First, how are you triggering the lights (direct sync cord, remotes (which ones), etc.). Depending on the remote, there could be a latency introduced that does not allow for very fast shutter speeds. See if direct cord triggering works.

Is there a way to change sync options? Older systems had "X sync" and "FP sync" and others marked on the lens where the PC terminal would be. Is there a menu option that allows for this? If so, try the different options and see what happens.

many thanks for the prompt reply. I'm using some early (4 - 5 yr old?) AB remotes (RFT-1) that work very well with my Canon DSLR gear. I will try some more accurate power / shutter speed combo tests with sync cord vs radio and see what happens. I'll also see if the camera has different sync options. Thanks again, Bill

I am not sure on the latency of the RFT1 remotes, but that could be where the problem lies as I believe it is somewhat slow by today's standards. The direct PC connection will definitely tell us if that is the problem.

I use Einsteins and even an AB 3200 triggered with either Cyber Commanders or CST's on a H4D with a 50 back syncing at 1/800 without any latency problem. The camera focusing light works at half press without triggering the Buff lights

Is "back syncing" a timing function that can be dialed in via a menu setting?
