If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Paul should definitely feel flattered. Photogenic was showing a VML near-clone today at the PhotoPlus Expo here in NY:

Considerably more expensive than the VML, of course.

Same inverter, copy of our battery and housing design. Got any idea what they're asking for this flat out knock off? Photogenic has a long history of copying our designs. Thanks for pointing this out.

I was told retail price would be $359, Paul.

That's about the minimum they could sell it for. Our price ($239.95) to B&H plus B&H profit comes out about there. Dealers expect a 35% discount, so $359 minus 35% ($125) = $234 they pay to Photogenic.

A few people will say, Gee it costs more, so it must be a better product, when it's really just a ripoff.

Pretty simple technology. Thre really isn't much that they could do differently, other than enclosure design and color.

Exact same inverter and battery locking design (enclosure is veryyy similar)?
Still pretty low brow IMHO... 8-)

Our inverter is not factory standard. We did several modifications to beef it up. If Photogenic didn't do the same, they will suffer Mosfet failures in the field.

I'd still go with the Buff product even if they were identical in both specification and price. Customer service matters!
