i know this is not really paul C buff related... but figured someone here could help... i have this boom stand http://www.adorama.com/BG3400.html and i am having an issue keeping my Einstein with large octa at the ange i want when boomed out because it rotates on the pin. after some reading i figured out i needed a drop down pin to keep the weight vertical. so i got this drop down pin http://www.adorama.com/AEE700.html but for some reason the turn screw on the drop down thread is to high up to actually attach to the stand? all the stands i have use the same style end to attach the light to, so i figured all the drop down pins would be the same. did i buy the wrong drop down pin? or am i missing a piece? |

Well, the links do not show the end of the boom area, so this may not be applicable. However, on Google searches, it appears the end of the boom has three holes into which you can install your brass spigot. Could you not use that feature to have the spigot drop down without the baby pin. Alternatively, you could use a double spigot (which I assume you have) and thread into a single spigot to make a triple length spigot. The added length (i would expect) should allow the T-screw to tighten. Also, I have seen couplers with two t-screw holes, maybe this applies here? |

ya know... now that you bring it up think i do have the pieces i would need to build an extended pin... i will have to try that! but yes, it does have the multiple holes but when the boom is at a high angle, i still get some spinning... |

You can use something like an Avenger E250 Long Double Stud in place of your double spigot. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1 ... _Stud.html It works with my boom stand. But give TS's solution a try first (and there might be other solutions too). |

Once you have a long enough pin, measure, where the screw of the Baby Drop Pin hits it, and then grind a flat spot ( file, angle grinder) at this distance on your extended pin. This should prevent the Baby drop pin from spinning. It works for me for a 7" octa on this avenger boom: http://www.adorama.com/AED600B.html Markus |
