Post subject:  Mixing Einsteins and ABS

Hello:

I'm new to this forum, but I've searched through quite a number of threads but haven't seen the precise answer to my questions (of course, it's possible that I didn't search far enough).

My question: if mixing Einstein(s) and AB(s), what should be done to ensure color consistency (assuming shooting in raw and taking a custom white balance reading)? If the two lights are set to the same power level will that ensure consistent color? Or is there some additional approach?

Thanks in advance,

Einsteins with the dome should match the color temperature of the Bees at a middle power range setting. Getting all lights (of any brand) to match exactly would be both an exercise in frustration, and, more importantly, limit the creativity in the lighting of the image.

Beyond that, each modifier you put on a light will affect color, regardless of manufacturer (though some are better than others). As well, surfaces (floors, walls, clothes, ceilings) that light bounces off of will contribute to color discrepancy.

Getting absolute identical color coming from every light is not only impossible, but in most cases, not necessary. In fact many photographers go out of their way to mix colors for more interesting lighting, as that is what is most often found naturally.
