I have heard if I get a speedring that can be mounted to your stand and not your light head, that it will be alot more stable. I was going to get PCB speedrings but they don't give me the option of using big modifiers and attaching the speedring to the light stand wich is a big deal to me if i'm shooting in outdoor situations with wind.

I think in all my research if i'm going to buy a speedring it will be a little more versatile if I have the option of putting a speedring onto the lightstand and not the head. I have attached the speedring that fits with PCB heads. Check it out and any other input would be great.

Hi All, I'm getting 4 Einsteins and would like some input on heavy 3rd party modifiers for outdoor shooting. Does anyone have any experience with the Kacey Bracket vs the Wizard bracket. The Kacey bracket gets your flash tube further in to the modifier (more "correct" than the standard crappy little bowls) and can be used with any speed ring that takes standard sized adapters. The monster requires a speed ring with a 1/4-20 hole. If you have one, it'll get the job done. However, I think the Kacey looks better thought out on the whole.

Putting the flashtube further into the reflector is not correct, and will change the focal point beamspread and possibly cause hotspots on focused reflectors like our 22HOBD, 11R high output reflector, etc. Won't make much difference on softboxes, etc.

So what is the verdict if I want to hold up heavy modifiers outside in the wind on bombproof c-stands with sandbags on them. The c-stands will hold up but will the modifiers hold up on the head?

Any large umbrella, PLM or softbox is prone to be torn up by significant wind. Simple physics.

I never had any problems with even a 6' octabox with grid, or a 84" x 32" strip with grid. Are you making sure that the speedring is all the way snug up against the plate, and snug up the lever?

It talks about having a 3/8" socket. So I can't guess how one would use it.

I have not tried any of them. But I think Im going to buy a few. I have had both my einsteins in for repairs two times because of the springs on the fingers failing. And I only have 6 months left on my warranty. So I will have to fint a solution before that, because I dont want the strobes to fail after the warranty is out. For now I am supporting the octaboxes with rope to the umbrella mount.

Hey Vampro, Are your Einsteins the version 2.1? They have modified the Einsteins twice since they came out due to heavy modifiers to the heads. You can also get a speedring with a bracket that mounts to the lightstand and not the head. That will save your heads as well.
