Hello All,

I will be getting 4 Einsteins and have been really looking hard on what speedring would be best for holding heavy modifiers. I know the Einstein V1 had a few issues with holding heavy modifiers. But hear is the problem I live in Australia and will be having to order them and shipped here. I really want to make sure that I get it right the first time. I have heard there are some third party speedrings that can be hooked into the stand itself and not all the weight will be on the light head. I can rig something up to make it work but I'm trying to get the best option. I have seen those Kacey Clamps that look great but I'm not looking to spend $130 each clamp times 4 for all my Einsteins. I will be doing alot of outdoor shots (WIND) and don't even want to think about the modifers not holding up in the wind or when i'm on a job. This will be a game changer for me if I can rig something up that is small, and affordable. The speed ring has to be universal for Octa's as well as softboxes. Any help would be fantastic.

We do offer a speedring, however it is not threaded for use on a light stand. Most speedrings are a standard size, though not all softboxes will fit a standard speedring. Your best bet to ensure the speedring to softbox fit is to decide on the softbox brand and select one of their speedrings.

Hm, go to ebay.com and search for "speedring AlienBees". There's a ring with a threaded connection to stands, sold by "oeccamera" / Texas, at about US$ 40. Check this post:

Thats great info. So is the conclusion so far is

A. Then bowens speedring works great on all Alien bees including the Einstein, but the downside is it doesn't fit an octabank. The problem to that SR as well is you would have to drill a hole to fit an octa right?

Secondly you said that the oeccamera speedring off of ebay works on all alien bees as well as the Einstein and it has a place to attach to lightstand.

So what is the final conclusion that would be the best case scenario. Do the speedrings from alien bees really work that well.

Here is what I am using with a Einstein and 7' Octa:

-EZ Lightstand 3/8" Mountable Speed Ring Softbox / AlienBees AlienBee Alien Bee
Sold by OECcamera on ebay.

-Kacey AB/WL Mount Adapter™ (optional).

Westcott 2303 Tilt adapter. This one will hold a 7' octal pretty much at any angle.
However, if it is windy, the surface of a big modifier will be your biggest problem.

The Kacey adapter distributes the light a little more uniform in a soft box, and also due to it's flat shape gives the Einstein fingers a little more grip, than the adapter that comes with the OEC speeding.

The Westcott tilt bracket is rock solid and easy to fasten. Similar locking off brands probably won't do it for big modifiers.

I'm just a little confused and am sorry to keep asking but would like to know how the system works with a little more detail.

Step 1. Buy 1 kacey bracket with 1 ebay EZ Lightstand 3/8" Mountable Speed Ring wich goes over the Adapter & Tilter Bracket for 3500 Series.

Step 2. How does the mounting work with 3 rd party modifiers?

Is that speedring a better option for PCB modifers and for 3rd party modifers or is it only good with the kacey adapter bracket?

I guess what I'm trying to ask is that is it better to get the EZ lightstand 3/8 speedring than the PCB speedring for all uses including using the 3rd party modifiers mounted to a kacey bracket and the PCB modifiers?

Would this be better a better habit to do in case over normal wear and tear the lips on the einstein won't weaken due to heat and so on?
