I recently bought some Einstein™ E640's and want to test out the "Action Mode" with my D700. I have changed some of my settings in relation to the Sync speed (1/250) is standard; But I also have the FP/320 setting as well.

I guess what I am not sure how to do is to get the flash to work at 1/8000 of simulate it, etc. Is there a guide somewhere?

The back of the flash shows the flash's pulse duration. You're *not* doing this w/ your camera's shutter and you need minimal ambient light.

Einstein has two modes available COLOR and ACTION. At full power, both modes will be equal in both flash duration and color temperature.

COLOR, which maintains color consistency within +/-50K through the entire power range, unlike virtually every other light on the market. As you dial down power, the flash durations get shorter but color is maintained.

ACTION mode allows for faster flash durations at the expense of color temperature. As you dial power down, fast durations get even shorter than COLOR mode's, but color temperature rises (gets bluer). When Einstein is the only source of light, the flash durations can freeze the action as well or better than most cameras can via shutter speed, and with more power than when using HSS/FP.

What Einstein cannot do is change the camera's limitation of maximum sync speed. In order to effectively exceed this speed, direct, bilateral communication is needed between the flash and camera. Also, specific circuitry is needed. Currently, no studio light I am aware of has true HSS capabilities. This means you are limited to the 1/250 of a second (or so) shutter speed.
