Q: How long should the battery last in my Vagabond Mini™ Lithium system?
A: The lifespan of the lithium ion battery in your Vagabond Mini™ Lithium system will vary based on a number of factors including frequency of use; power load while in use; charge level, environmental conditions, and ambient temperature (both when the unit is in use and in storage); and overall battery age. To maximize the lifespan of your lithium ion battery, we recommend the following: • When not in use, store the battery in a cool place. Do NOT store your battery in a hot environment (above 86ºF) such as an attic or a car on a warm day. Similarly, do NOT store your battery in a cold environment where temperatures drop below 32º. Leaving a battery in a hot environment, especially when it is exposed to the sun, is very stressful on the battery, speeding up capacity loss. A fully charged battery stored at elevated temperatures is even worse. • Partially charge the battery before storage. If the charge status is lower than 25%, apply a partial charge to at least 70%, turn the system OFF, disconnect the battery charger, disconnect the battery and store it in a safe, cool, dry place away from flammable materials. While the battery can be stored safely in any state of charge, it should be used and partially recharged every three months for best battery life, and to avoid ruining the battery’s components. For long-term storage, do not allow the battery to be fully discharged then stored. Storing a battery for periods over a few days when it is nearly discharged may result in degradation of the battery’s internal components. A battery that is properly used and properly taken care of should deliver approximately 300 to 500 charge / discharge cycles, lasting 1 to 3 years. When the battery capacity drops to 50% or lower (when the number of full power flashes, per wattsecond rating, per battery charge is halved), it is recommended that you replace the battery. For safety and best performance, the battery in your Vagabond Mini™ Lithium system should be replaced after 3 years, regardless of capacity.
