I format the microSD card (FAT16) and follow all the instructions given on the web. However when connecting the powercord the unit's fan starts spinning unevenly (the display doesn't turn white or flick at all). I can remove the SD card and start the unit normally (no firmware upgrade has been done).

Did you update a different Einstein before this one? If so, be sure to reload the firmware to the card between lights.

I presume the card is 2GB or smaller in capacity?

Did you place the folder titled "PCBUFF" on the root drive of the SD card? Within that folder should be a folder titled "Einstein" and within that, three folders CONFIGS, FIRMWARE, and LOAD.

In the FIRMWARE folder, you should have three .hex files.

In the LOAD folder, you should have the RBR.hex file.

Please let me know if any of these items are incorrect on your card.

Hi,

yes, it's a 2Gb card, formatted in FAT16. Everything you said about the folders is ok, all the files are there.

Ok. There is an alternative method of starting the firmware update. This is for the OP only at this point, and any future readers should contact us before attempting this. OP, read this fully before starting this process.

-Start with the light plugged in and turned on.
-Insert the microSD card into the light as normal.
-Press the function button until the DIAGNOSTICS SCREEN is displayed.
-Arrow up or down to select BOOTLOAD and press Function (*edited for correction*)
-Arrow up or down to select the RBR file
-Press test

The update should start now.
