I bought a used kit of CyberCommander(CC), 4 transceivers, and a CST+ trigger on eBay from a reliable brick-and-mortar used photo gear seller. I didn't notice that the CC was a previous configuration that didn't include a protruding antenna. It has a bar code and number "2870" on the back next to the battery compartment. I have four Einsteins. Not sure I'd need to mix in speedlights on location (maybe someday but love the one Vagabond rig I have) and I have Phottix Odin radio set for those. Is there any reason I will have difficulties with the CC controller? I have successfully updated the firmware from its v3.2. I have learned a bit through experimentation, but do have the first strobe-lit event portrait/groups set coming this weekend since the arrival of the triggers. Looking forward to having the flexibility to adjust these units will give me. BUT... this is clearly an older controller. Any warnings? adjustments in shooting? Every once in a while it seems the press-to-fire does not work the first time but immediately works thereafter. Only thing I have seen so far that isn't as advertised. (Although it must be noted that it does take a long time of study to understand how to work these units as a system...) I am still reading through all the posts here. The only operational difference between the antenna-ed version and the one without is longer range with the external antenna. You can expect up to 100' from your unit. However, being used, it is hard to say what problems it has from its previous owner. If the unit is asleep, one button press should wake the unit. The next button press will be ignored. All subsequent presses should be instantly activated until the unit goes back to sleep. Incidentally, if you unit came with a manual, an updated (overhauled) version is available online. If you prefer, we can send you a hard copy on request. |

Thanks for the info. 100' should be OK. How old is the "antenna-less" unit? Or more exactly, when did the newer unit enter production? The "missing button press" is good to know about. I missed that in the manual I downloaded from your web site. What I cannot download is the missing PC connector with the tiny 2.5mm plug I also bought in the same lot a CST trigger and that too, I think, has the female 2.5mm socket. Are these available to purchase? Are they set up like mono sound plugs? I might have something similar here or an adapter from the more common 3.5mm to 2.5mm plug. |

A 3.5 to 2.5 adapter (mono or stereo) from Radio Shack should work fine, but we do offer these cords, as do other photo retailers. They can be found here on our site: http://www.paulcbuff.com/sccst.php Or, if you are handy, you can build one from an unused cord and a 2.5mm mono plug, also from Radio Shack (at least I think they carry them). Antennaed units started shipping in December 2010. |

I will work on this at my end. The cost to have you guys ship the little $4 cord to me here in Hawaii is $41. Yikes! We do have a local Radio Shack, and there is FlashZebra, a great resource.
