I realize this isn't a question about my AlienBees B400, but how to use it.

I want to shoot at f2.8 so I put an ND filter on my lens, which helped bring the hot spots down a lot. However, even at the very lowest setting at ISO 100 I can't quite get what I'm looking for. The biggest problem I'm having is that the modeling lamp gets so low at the same time that I can't get enough contrast on my subject (shooting through the ND filter) to focus on the spot (the eye) that I want to focus on. Do I just need to turn on a bank of LED light to achieve focus, then keep my shutter high enough to rule out the ambient? I'm getting dizzy, juggling all the factors and a moving subject. :-)

If you press the the button on the back of the light marked TRACK, it should pop out and return the model lamp to full power.
