I have read the differences between the two versions. I was a bit undecided and went with silver. If the situation arises in which I would "need" a white beauty dish, could I use a matte white spray such as the rubber dip spray made by Plastidip that I could just peel off when I was done and get the same results or would the beam pattern still be that of the silver dish?

The beam spread of the silver is what it is because of the silver surface. The white beauty dish is. in fact, a white painted silver beauty dish. By painting the surface white, you should closely replicate the effect of the white dish. However, each type of white paint will be different colors. You will likely not find a paint devoid of any color cast. And if you do, it will not likely stay that way.

I do not know how well the paint will peel and what any residue may do or leave to the silver surface.

You may use the white diffusion sock (with deflector in place) to see how that works for you. You can also place grids over the sock if needed. However, it will be a tight fit, and will increase wear on the sock.

Excellent that is the answer I hoped for and my exact reason for going with silver because it's a lot easier to recreate the matte white if needed. As long as the paint has a heavy coat it comes off fairly easy as shown here at 3:35 http://youtu.be/0r7xvBSqhOE
