How can I get my Sekonic L358 Light meter to trigger the Cybersync receiver on my 800 Alienbees?
I have read old threads (2009) where they weren't compatible but surely something has been
figured out by now? Help please?

Nothing has changed since 2009. Sekonic offers radio modules that are compatible with PocketWizard radio remotes. In order to use the integrated remote, you must use a PocketWizard receiver.

However, the "default" way of using a flash meter would be to connect the flash to the meter with a PC cord. This is very much an option with the Sekonic and AlienBees combination using the PC cord provided with the AlienBee.

Lastly, if you have a different set of remotes you wish to use, you can connect a transmitter to the meter, and set the meter to corded mode, just like you would with a PC cord. Alternatively, you can put the meter in cordless mode (this is different than wireless, which is the integrated receiver). In this mode, you press the meter button to "arm" the meter, then trigger the flash by some means (usually by the test button on your radio remote transmitter). When the flash fires, you will be given a meter reading. This will automatically be updated with new flash pops, if they are made within ~90 seconds. One thing to note, is the flicker from fluorescent lights will continuously update the meter, and give you an under exposure warning.

I'm sorry but I don't understand the last explanation for an alternate set of remotes. The only remotes I have are the cybersync system. Could I purchase another cybersync trigger and velcro it to the back of the sekonic meter and push the trigger button on the cybersync to trigger the lights? or is that not possible?

Yes, this is mostly doable. If you are going to Velcro a CyberSync transmitter (CST) to the Sekonic, I would run the short cord from the meter to the CST. This way, you only have one button to press (on the meter), and can use only one hand. You may want to consider gaffer taping the cord down and in place to reduce it falling out or catching on something.

The way you describe is doable, but may be awkward to press the CST button and aim the meter properly. You can do it the way you describe without the CST being physically attached to the meter. If you don't want the cord, I would not attach the two with Velcro.

That is the way I test my lights, and as it turns out, is a very easy and efficient way to meter with the L358. I thought about velcro too but decided to put the cst in my pocket when I don't need it. I, on occasion, also have two cameras when on a shoot so after I'm done metering I just attach it to the other camera.
